Demand That Democrats Allow Drilling

Republicans have their backs against the wall, facing a bloodbath on Election Day that will leave the party in shambles and the nation in the hands of the worst conglomeration of demagogues, scoundrels and loony leftists ever put together in our nation’s history.

When you’re fighting for your life, you have two choices: whimper about your plight while the other side cuts you to pieces, or fight as if your life depends on it, which of course it does.

Dark as the outlook for survival may seem, there is a ray of light that if taken advantage of can not only save the GOP, but turn it into a rout of the Democrats that could make Election Day a victory celebration for the Republicans instead of a mournful wake.

The Democrats, who have long shown a shocking talent for snatching defeat from the jaws of near certain victory, are now trying mightily to commit political suicide, yet the majority of elected Republicans are either too blind to see a golden opportunity handed to them on a silver platter, or too stupid to take advantage of it.

Think about it, the vast majority of Americans — almost 80 percent of them — are angry and demanding that Congress allow drilling for oil here in the mainland United States, offshore and in Alaska, and the Democrats are thumbing their nose at them and adamantly refusing to lift the ban on drilling.

Their leadership is so committed to preventing the commonsense, long-term solution to the energy crises that they not only refuse to allow a vote on the measure, but skip town without addressing the crisis, with the speaker of the house gadding off to Florida and elsewhere to sell her worst-selling book (a pitiful 2,700 or so copies sold thus far, according to Matt Drudge) while her fellow Americans groan under the burden of $4.00 a gallon gasoline.

Her motto isn’t Marie Antoinette’s “let them eat cake” — it’s more like let the people buy my book and keep shelling out $4 a gallon for gas.

That’s a gift from the gods, a life-saving issue that puts the pro-drilling Republicans on the right side of the year’s hottest political controversy, and provides them with a weapon they can use to draw the majority of voters to their side and save the party from an impending electoral disaster.

Pushed to the limit, it can make Election Day 2008 a banner day in the party’s history.

That was obvious to me the minute I saw which way the wind was blowing. Here was the issue that puts the GOP solidly in league with the American people. When I talked with Texas Congressman John Carter on the phone I told him the media was not going to present the GOP’s position on the matter, so the Republicans had to do the job themselves in a way the media could not ignore.

They had to dramatize their stand.

I told Rep. Carter that with the Democrats fleeing town in droves the Republicans in both houses needed to get back to the Hill and by their presence there in the empty House and Senate chambers demonstrate the Democrats’ shameful refusal to respond the demands of the American people,

I said they should demand that the vacationing Democrats come back now and respond to the people’s wishes for a solution. I also said that the president needed to call the Democrats back to deal with the crisis.

I added that the media would have to cover the event, thus dramatizing the Democrats’ flight from Washington in the middle of a crisis facing every American. He agreed with me and went to the leadership and they agreed, and the resulting GOP response is getting the media’s begrudging attention.

It’s not enough, however.

This needs to be a party-wide strategy. The entire Republican House membership and all their Senate Republican colleagues need to be on the Hill now, making the case for Congress to reconvene now as loud as they can. And the president needs to call the Congress back into session and demand that the Democrats act to put an end to the crisis now.

This is a golden opportunity, and if the GOP fails to take full advantage of it they will deserve it if the voters go with Democrats in November. The American people are with the Republicans on the most important issue of our time.

The question is, are the Republicans on their side and willing to lead them in the fight to use all the oil resources the Lord has given us in such great abundance and which now are untapped beneath our feet because the Democrats won’t allow us to drill down to get it.

Republicans can unite to fight and win. Or they can do what they seem to do best these days, cringe and surrender.

It’s up to them.

Pro-Obama Group Threatens Republican Donors

Friday, August 8, 2008 11:08 AM

By: Jim Meyers

A new left-wing organization that wants to help elect Barack Obama president is sending letters to nearly 10,000 major donors who contribute to Republican causes, threatening them with potential legal problems if they finance conservative groups.

The nonprofit organization, Accountable America, is even offering a $100,000 reward for information that leads to the criminal conviction or fines of at least $10,000 for violations of campaign finance laws or other statutes by a conservative group, according to The New York Times.

Accountable America is led by Tom Matzzie, former Washington director of the liberal activist group MoveOn.org, and its research director is Judd Legum, who served that role in Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Matzzie called the organization’s effort “going for the jugular.” He told The Times, "We want to stop the Swift Boating before it gets off the ground.”

The warning letter being sent to potential donors “is intended as a first step, alerting donors who might be considering giving to right-wing groups to a variety of potential dangers, including legal trouble, public exposure and watchdog groups digging through their lives,” The Times reports.

If a conservative group do run ads attacking Obama, Matzzie says his group plans to run ads countering it exposing the donors behind the anti-Obama message.

Matzzie’s group has so far raised only $200,000, but he said he hopes to raise more than $500,000 by next week and $2 million overall.

Republican strategist Chris LaCivita doubts the group will succeed in scaring off donors, saying “they’re not going to be intimidated by some pipsqueak on the kooky left.”

Matzzie previously headed the Campaign to Defend America, which has run ads against Republican presidential candidate John McCain in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

You Don’t Know Barack Obama

You Don’t Know Barack Obama Until You Read This Book.

This new book — "The Case Against Barack Obama" is published by the same group that brought you "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry" — the book that defeated John Kerry in 2004.

Already the liberal media has condemned "The Case Against Barack Obama" because it could change the outcome of the election.

Make no doubt about it, Barack Obama is the media's darling, the fresh face of the Democratic ticket. But what does Barack Obama really stand for — and will his extreme liberal agenda and complete inexperience in global affairs endanger the country?

That's what David Freddoso, investigative reporter and National Review Online columnist, examines in "The Case Against Barack Obama."

Has any major candidate for president of the United States ever received less critical examination than Barack Obama? Who is this man, who was only elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004?

How did someone with his meager record of accomplishment become the Democratic nominee for president? How did someone with the most liberal voting record in the U.S. Senate and long-standing relationships with a former terrorist, a racist minister, and the corrupt operators of Chicago Machine politics end up as a supposed beacon of a newer, cleaner, bipartisan politics?

Investigative reporter David Freddoso has the answers. Doing the legwork that the mainstream media has neglected, applying a critical eye while the media swoons before the Obama-messiah, and posing the hard questions that Obama needs to answer, Freddoso reveals a politician as calculating as any other, a far-left Democrat who goes beyond "abortion rights" to supporting de facto infanticide, whose "new politics" amount to Chicago-style hardball overlain with lofty rhetoric, and who, from his positions of power, has helped his patrons.

In "The Case Against Barack Obama", you’ll learn:

How Obama’s friendship with the Reverend Jeremiah Wright was no accident, but a carefully thought-out personal and political decision
The inside story of Obama's association with terrorist Bill Ayers wouldn’t matter — an exposé of the insular radical chic of Chicago's Hyde Park politics
The real story of Obama as a puppet of Mayor Daley's corrupt Chicago political machine
What Obama really did for convicted developer Tony Rezko
Debunking the myth of Obama’s "new" politics: how Obama won his first election by throwing all of his competitors off the ballot
The new 'Dirty Politics': how underhanded politics sabotaged Obama's opponents in his 2004 Senate race
A story Obama would like to stay buried in Chicago: how he used his clout as a U.S. senator to save the corrupt Cook County Political Machine when reformers of both parties tried to challenge the entrenched political bosses
How Barack Obama opposed a bill banning infanticide-by-neglect — a stance too extreme even for Nancy Pelosi. (Freddoso has an exclusive interview with the nurse central to the case.)
Why the National Abortion Rights Action League says Obama is the most pro-abortion candidate they have ever backed
How Obama has repeatedly steered taxpayer money to campaign donors
And much, much more.
Sober, fair, and thoroughly researched — and all the more powerful and provocative because of it — "The Case Against Barack Obama" removes the halo from a man less qualified, and more radical, than the mainstream media has let you know.

Find out why electing this man as our Commander-in-Chief could be the most dangerous decision in American history.

Obama’s Muslim Connection Won’t Go Away

Obama’s Muslim Connection Won’t Go Away

Thursday, August 7, 2008 12:15 PM

By: Jim Meyers Article Font Size

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s ties to Islam is a story line that is not going away, according to a recent analysis by the Project for Excellence in Journalism.

“Rumors that Barack Obama was a secret Muslim whose patriotism was questionable first appeared on blogs and in e-mail messages,” PJE noted.

“In March, the rumors began to show up in the press, though only minimally.”

PJE’s News Coverage Index found that media reports about these rumors accounted for 0.4 percent of the “campaign newshole” from mid-March to mid-April.

But coverage has steadily increased since then, and accounted for 3.8 percent of the campaign news from mid-June to mid-July.

Obama has denied he is a Muslim or ever was a practicing Muslim.

The basis of the “rumor” germinates with Obama’s father, who was a Muslim, though Obama claims he was non-practicing. Adding to the mix is Obama’s full name, Barack Hussein Obama, which is an Arabic name.

Obama’s biological father disappeared from his son’s life soon after he was born and returned to his native Kenya.

Obama’s Kansas-born mother and her second husband, an Indonesian who was also a Muslim, moved from Hawaii to Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, in 1967. Obama lived there from ages 6 to 10.

Reports dating back as far as early 2007 held that Obama was educated at a radical Islamic school in Indonesia.

Press accounts revealed that in fact, Obama first attended a Catholic school for almost three years. However, his mother registered him in the school as a Muslim.

Some press reports indicated that Obama attended a radical madrasa, a school for radical Islamics. But that story was found to be untrue.

In the wake of that controversy, the Los Angeles Times sent a reporter to Jakarta to ferret out the truth.

The Times report, published on March 16, 2008, revealed:

• A close boyhood friend of Obama, Zulfin Adi, said Barack "was a Muslim. He went to the mosque."

• Obama's first-grade teacher at a Catholic school, Israella Dharmawan, said: "Barry (Barack's nickname) was Muslim. He was registered as a Muslim because his father was Muslim."

• In the third grade, Obama transferred to a public school, where he was also registered as a Muslim. At the school, Muslim students attended weekly religion lessons about Islam.

Some of these details have been confirmed by Obama himself. In his autobiography, "Dreams From My Father," Obama mentions studying the Koran and describes the public school as "a Muslim school."

Earlier this year, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs claimed: "Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian."

But the facts suggest that statement is not exactly true.

Middle East Forum director Daniel Pipes wrote on FrontPageMag.com that his research led him to conclude that "Obama was born a Muslim to a non-practicing Muslim father and for some years had a reasonably Muslim upbringing under the auspices of his Indonesian stepfather."

After the Los Angeles Times conducted its own investigation, Gibbs amended his previous statement on behalf of Obama, telling the Los Angeles Times: "Obama has never been a practicing Muslim," the key word being "practicing."

After the Los Angeles Times report, Obama’s hometown newspaper, the Chicago Tribune, came to his rescue, publishing its own story about Obama’s Indonesian years less than two weeks after the Times report.

The Tribune said they had re-interviewed Obama’s boyhood friend Adi. He told the Tribune he was not sure Obama had been a practicing Muslim. The Tribune also claimed it conducted “interviews with dozens of former classmates, teachers, neighbors and friends” — all who indicated that Obama “was not a regular practicing Muslim when he was in Indonesia.'"

Despite heated denials — perhaps fueled by his attendance at Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakan’s Million Man March — doubts linger about Obama’s religious status.

For example, The New Yorker magazine’s recent controversial cover depicting Obama in traditional Muslim clothing — sandals, robe and turban – reflects those doubts.

The PJE’s News Coverage Index examines about four dozen news outlets to determine what is being covered and what is not.

Many of the news accounts surrounding this story have reported stories debunking the belief that Obama was or still is a Muslim. Nevertheless, a recent poll by the Pew Research Center found that 12 percent of respondents believed the candidate is a Muslim.

Poll results released in mid-July by Newsweek magazine showed that 26 percent of respondents believe Obama was sworn in as a U.S. senator on a Koran, 26 percent believe he was raised as a Muslim, and 39 percent believe he attended an Islamic school as a child growing up in Indonesia.

While rebuffing reports of his ties to Islam, Obama has insisted there is “nothing wrong” with being a Muslim.

But any perceived link between Obama and Islam could be detrimental to his campaign, polls show.

A survey by Fox News/Opinion Dynamics conducted when Mitt Romney, a Mormon, was a Republican presidential candidate found that 32 percent of voters said they would be less likely to vote for a presidential candidate who is Mormon — while 45 percent said they would be less likely to vote for a Muslim.

And a poll by the Pew Research Center disclosed that 35 percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of Muslims.

EXPERIENCE, WELL YES! 143 DAYS EN TOTO

From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate.

That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working. After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan. 143 days. I keep leftovers in my refrigerator longer than that.'

Obama Welshes on Hillary Promise

Obama Welshes on Hillary Promise

Hillary and Bill Clinton are privately fuming about the second-class treatment they have received from Democratic presumptive nominee Barack Obama.

When Obama and Hillary "kissed" and made up during their unity rally in June, both made a private pledge to each other to help raise $500,000 from their donors for the other's campaign.

Though deep in debt, Hillary quickly fulfilled her promise. But cash-rich Obama has yet to cough up the dough from his backers.

"Hillary has done her part in that regard," a Hillary adviser told Time. "Obama has not."

Then there was the warm and fuzzy call between Bill Clinton and Obama. Obama told Clinton he wanted to sit down with the popular former president, the most successful Democratic president since FDR. But Clinton aides say Obama has never folowed up on the verbal invitation.

These and other details on the deteriorating Clinton-Obama relationship are laid out in a Time magazine report.

Bill Clinton's comments to ABC News are symptomatic of his and Hillary's icy relationship with Obama. Asked during his trip to Africa if Obama was qualified to be president, Clinton stubbornly refused to answer affirmatively.

A Hillary adviser told TIme, "It's not a great relationship, and it's probably not going to become one."

Reportedly, Hillary seriously doubts that Obama can beat McCain come November. And she is thinking of keeping her name in nomination and demand a vote at the party's Denver Convention.

Hillary wants to remind voters and the media that she was the alternative to Obama, a important point that

could be brought home on Election Day.

Say Watt, Senator?

Say Watt, Senator?
By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Wednesday, August 06, 2008 4:20 PM PT

Energy Policy: Barack Obama wants a million electric cars on the road by 2015. Where's he going to plug them in? John McCain has the answer — a renewable energy source called nuclear power.

Speaking Tuesday in Lansing, Mich., Sen. Obama set a goal of putting 1 million plug-in gas-electric hybrid cars, capable of getting 150 miles per gallon of gasoline consumed, on the road by 2015.

To help power them, Obama also said he wanted 10% of our electricity to come from renewable sources by 2012 and 25% by 2025.

Actually, about 20% of our electricity already comes from a renewable resource — nuclear power — and John McCain wants to up that percentage significantly.

Obama has opposed increased use of non-polluting nuclear power and the reprocessing of spent fuel rods into new fuel, not to mention the storage of radioactive waste in the geologically safe and stable facility being built at Yucca Mountain in Nevada.

Unlike Obama, Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats now on vacation — as in the vacation their constituents increasingly can't afford because of high energy costs — John McCain is for all forms of energy, as long as they're produced domestically.

"We all know nuclear power isn't enough and drilling isn't enough," McCain rightly said Tuesday, as he stood in front of the cooling towers of Michigan's Fermi II nuclear power plant on the shores of Lake Erie near the Ohio border. "Solving our national energy crisis requires an all-of-the-above approach."

DTE Energy's Fermi II, named for Enrico Fermi, the first physicist to split the atom, is one of three nuclear plants in Michigan that supply about 25% of the state's electrical needs. McCain wants to build 45 new nuclear power plants nationwide by 2030 to meet a demand for electricity that is expected to rise 25% by then.

McCain recalled his service aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise and noted: "I knew (nuclear power) was safe then, and I know it's safe now." As he has pointed out, U.S. sailors have sailed aboard nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers for more than five decades without ill effects or accidents. No American sailor, past or present, glows in the dark.

Safety and waste-storage concerns have been mentioned by Obama as reasons he is not a nuclear proponent. No doubt nuclear critics inside and outside his camp will say, "Wait a minute! Didn't the Los Angeles-class nuclear power submarine USS Houston leak radioactive water earlier this year?" Yes, it did, about the same amount of radioactivity as a 50-pound bag of fertilizer emits.

Since the U.S. Navy commissioned the world's first nuclear-powered sub, the USS Nautilus, in 1954, there hasn't been a single nuclear reactor accident on any of its nuclear-powered vessels. There currently are 102 nuclear reactors aboard 80 Navy combat vessels.

"Sen. Obama has said that expanding our nuclear power plants 'doesn't make sense for America,' " McCain said at Fermi. "He also says no to nuclear storage and reprocessing. I couldn't disagree more.

"I have proposed a plan to build additional nuclear plants. That means new jobs and that means new energy. If we want to enable the technologies of tomorrow like plug-in electric cars, we need electricity to plug into."

As Nicolas Loras and Jack Spencer of the Heritage Foundation note, uranium is considered a finite resource like coal and oil, but it can be recycled and reused. It's a renewable resource, and the French, the British and, yes, even the Japanese recycle their spent nuclear fuel.

Using the French method of reprocessing, the U.S. could recycle its 58,000 tons of used fuel to power every household for 12 years.

As even Patrick Moore, a Greenpeace co-founder who gained prominence in the 1960s by opposing nuclear testing, told a House committee in April 2005: "Nuclear energy is the only non-greenhouse-gas-emitting power source that can effectively replace fossil fuels and satisfy global demand for energy."

Barack Obama, call your office.

Obama Finds An ACORN

Obama Finds An ACORN
By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Wednesday, August 06, 2008 4:20 PM PT

Election '08: The man who includes being a community organizer on his short resume has a long association with a far-left group that would organize our communities into socialist gulags.

In 1995, Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar balked at implementing the federal motor voter law out of concern that letting people register via postcard and blocking the state from pruning voter rolls might invite vote fraud.

A young lawyer, a community organizer himself, sued on behalf of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (Acorn) and won. The young lawyer was Barack Obama. Acorn later invited Obama to train its staff.

When Obama served on the board of the Woods Fund for Chicago with Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, the Woods Fund frequently gave Acorn grants to fund its agenda and voter registration activities.

Acorn has been in the lead in opposing voter ID laws and other efforts to ensure ballot integrity. Acorn has been implicated in voter fraud and bogus registration schemes in Ohio and at least 13 other states. Acorn staffers will presumably be out registering voters again this year.

Obama also opposes voter ID laws. He believes they disenfranchise voters. Last year, Obama put a hold on the nomination of Hans von Spakovsky for a seat on the Federal Election Commission. It seems von Spakovsky, as an official in the Justice Department, had supported a Georgia photo ID law. Acorn espouses the leftist view that voter ID laws are racist.

In addition to subverting American democracy to promote a leftist agenda, Acorn's radical agenda amounts to "undisguised authoritarian socialism." wrote Sol Stern in the 2003 City Journal article, "Acorn's Nutty Regime for Cities."

Acorn opposed welfare reform and opposes securing American borders to stem the flow of illegal immigrants. Acorn was heavily involved a few years back in opposing Rudy Giuliani's efforts to privatize failing New York schools.

Acorn also has been in the lead supporting the "living wage" and opposing efforts by big-box retailers such as Wal-Mart to bring the bounty and benefits of free-market capitalism to inner cities.

Wal-Mart has faced resistance to its plans to expand into urban centers — most notably Chicago and Los Angeles — where unions and liberal orthodoxy remain strong. Opponents there charge that such big-box stores exploit workers, depress wages and drive out community businesses.

Acorn, Obama's former client, supported a big-box living-wage ordinance vetoed by Chicago's Mayor Richard Daley to require stores of at least 90,000 square feet operated by firms with $1 billion or more in annual sales nationwide to pay workers a minimum of $10 an hour plus $3 in benefits.

Critics such as Acorn, who complain that Wal-Mart employees live paycheck to paycheck, forget that many of Wal-Mart's customers also live paycheck to paycheck and seek quality merchandise at decent prices, which is why 100 million people shop there every week.

How can they oppose "low" wages for Wal-Mart employees while in effect supporting higher prices for Wal-Mart customers? They can because they believe the socialist orthodoxy that capitalism is bad, government is good and that the solution to poverty is to make everyone equally poor.

Wal-Mart gives people what they want at a price they can afford. It believes a fair wage is one agreed upon between employee and employer. It is the poster child for roll-up-your-sleeves capitalism. It is efficient, innovative, successful and nonunion — everything government is not — and is opposed for all these reasons.

Advocates of the so-called living wage see their efforts as putting money directly into workers' pockets. But it merely transfers money from one person's pocket to another person's pocket. This is classic socialist income redistribution — not economic justice, but economic extortion.

In the real world, companies that pay workers more than the value of the goods and services they produce go out of business. Workers should be paid what their labor is worth, not what their lifestyle requires.

On his Web site, Obama embraces Acorn's socialist goal, pledging to "raise the minimum wage and index it to inflation to make sure that full-time workers can earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs such as food, transportation and housing."

That money would come from taxpayers and business owners or, as Marx would say, from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

WHY NOT AN UP-OR-DOWN VOTE????

Dear David:

No fair up-or-down votes on lifting Congressional bans on domestic oil drilling!

While the American people suffer from record-high gas prices, that is the message -- loud and clear -- from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her liberal colleagues!

In fact, Pelosi and Company are so dead set against alleviating the pain Americans are feeling at the pump that she hurriedly banged down the gavel, adjourned Congress and FLED from Washington for a five-week vacation.

And, when a group of conservative legislators tried to speak directly to the American people about the need for Congress to address our nation's energy crisis before skipping town, Pelosi ACTUALLY turned off the microphones, shut off the cameras and turned out the lights!

Right now, many Americans can't afford to go on vacation because of the high price of gasoline. But that didn't stop Nancy Pelosi from taking her five-week summer recess.

In defense of her egregious actions, all she could do several days ago was rant:

"I'm trying to save the planet; I'm trying to save the planet. I will not have this debate trivialized by their excuses for their failed policy."

"Trying to save the planet?" How many people will have to suffer before she declares the world safe?

And moreover, what "failed policy" is Pelosi talking about? President Bush and conservative legislators are calling for the REVERSAL of a 30-year policy of limiting domestic drilling. They are trying to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil by responsibly increasing our domestic supply.

How can a policy that hasn't been implemented in 30 years be a "failed policy?" Is Pelosi that out of touch with the 70% of the American people who support more domestic drilling?

Well guess what? Pelosi and her minions might be able to run but they can't hide (Members of Congress have fax machines in their district offices too).

And we're not going to let Pelosi get away with her callous obstruction while Americans are suffering, in large part, because Pelosi objects to any and all new domestic drilling!

Despite what Nancy Pelosi may think, this is not the former-Soviet Union! Nancy Pelosi cannot single-handedly repress free speech and callously disregard the will of the American people.

She needs to be put in her place and told this is not the way things work in the United States of America!

President Bush has the power to call Congress back into session and Congressional leader have that power as well!

And together, we're going to MAKE SURE IT HAPPENS -- RIGHT HERE AND RIGHT NOW! We're going to demand that Pelosi's Politburo be brought back into town -- kicking and screaming if necessary -- for one purpose and one purpose alone; a fair up-or-down vote on lifting Congressional bans on domestic drilling!

Use the hyperlink below to send your urgent and personalized Blast Fax messages to President George W. Bush and each and every Member of the Leadership of the House and Senate!

Tell them in no uncertain terms that the American people want them back in Washington DC and that there WILL BE NO VACATION for them until they hold a fair up-or-down vote on lifting Congressional prohibitions on domestic drilling!

President Bush has the power to call them back into town! They have the power to call themselves back into town! Tell our elected officials that they serve the American people and we REFUSE to wait until September just so they can come back to Washington and continue stalling this vote! Tell them their employers want them back at work and we want them back now!

Here's the Play-By-Play

Question: Why would Pelosi shut down the microphones, chase away the C-SPAN camera crews and turn off the lights while Members of Congress were still speaking on the floor?

Answer: Simply put, Pelosi and her liberal colleagues do not want you and your fellow Americans to hear the other side of the debate. She blatantly was suppressing the speech of opposing points of view?

John Gizzi with Human Events gives us some of the sad and sordid details:

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi attempted repeatedly to shut down lawmakers from making the five-minute speeches that traditionally mark the closing of a House session. Angry conservatives on the Republican side rebelled, turned on microphones that the speaker had shut off, and kept the House press gallery in operation as more and more reporters came by to see what on earth was happening...."

"This was war, all right. And as Rep. John Shadegg of Arizona, one of the leaders of the Republican revolt told me, 'The speaker wouldn't let us have the five-minute speeches because she didn't want the day dominated on the floor by speeches pointing out she has not allowed a vote on a single measure to permit greater oil exploration for the past two months. This is our answer to the Orange Revolution and our modern day Boston tea party.'"

Gizzi continues:

"'Word spread that the speaker -- who was never actually here on the floor -- was going to shut down the House press gallery,' a breathless Shadegg told me in a call from the floor, 'But rules are clear that the gallery can't be shut down if a Member is there. So a bunch of us have been taking turns -- we're 'human shields,' keeping the press gallery going.' Along with Shadegg, the 'human shields' included House GOP Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.), and Texas Reps. Ted Poe and John Carter.

"'You cannot repress free speech, Madame Speaker,' declared Shadegg, adding that the intense protest to keep the floor and press gallery alive were critical because 'every day without oil production, the American people are hurt. It destroys the lives of the poorest Americans, those with the oldest cars, the worst mileage, and sometimes the longest commutes. That's the point we are making.'"

This point bears repeating.

Traditionally when Congress adjourns, Members are allowed to make five-minute speeches before going home. But Pelosi DIDN'T WANT THEM TO SPEAK! So she shut down the microphones and turned off the lights -- even though she had no clear right to do it.

Nancy Pelosi is out of control! Her blind allegiance to a Socialist philosophy has warped her judgment!

We need to send Nancy Pelosi a message and let her know exactly WHO IS IN CHARGE -- THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

National Watermelon Month... The Lunatics Appear to Have Taken Over The Asylum!

Just to put some perspective on just how out of touch Pelosi and Company are, consider the following statement from Tony Perkins with Family Research Council:

"Of the 290 laws passed this Congress (which comes dangerously close to the lowest number ever), 30 percent of them just name post offices. Congress also took the time to recognize July as 'National Watermelon Month' and officially classify dirt as a natural resource. It is little wonder that Congress's approval rating is in the single digits -- nine percent -- for the first time ever."

The Pelosi Politburo had the time to declare July "National Watermelon Month." The Pelosi Politburo had the time to classify dirt as a national resource, but didn't have the time or inclination to call a vote on the most pressing issue facing the American people TODAY!

Is THAT how you "save the planet?"

It would appear the lunatics have taken over the asylum! But at least some of our elected officials have gotten the message.

Republican Leaders John Boehner and Roy Blunt put together a memo asking President Bush to call Congress back into session.

The memo reads in part:

"It's not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering. The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. We've called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies."

And some are answering the call. According to ABC News:

"House Republicans tell ABC News that at least 30 members of Congress... are flying back to DC from their Districts today and tomorrow to attend a special debate on energy policy. This 'session' is scheduled for Monday, August 4th beginning at 10 am ET. As expected, no Democrats will participate."

And where does President Bush stand?

John Gizzi recounting a conversation with Congressman Mike Pence:

"'I spoke with a key aide and made it clear he should urge the President to call Congress back and deal with the energy crisis.' Pence would not say who the aide was, but noted that the response to his admonition was 'very positive.'"

Congressman Wally Herger told Gizzi:

"'We're doing everything we can to get President Bush to bring Congress back. As to the White House's attitude on making this rare-but-constitutional step, Herger said, I'd say that right now, it's rising on his [Bush's] agenda.'"

And if you're asking; 'when will President Bush act,' the answer should be obvious.

He's waiting to hear from you.

Dare We Say Socialism?

We're actually at a pivotal moment in our nation's history.

And we're playing a very sick game of "chicken."

Make no mistake, Nancy Pelosi is the leader of a group of legislators who are pushing a far-Left -- dare we say Socialist -- agenda that has infected the Democratic Party!

And she's staring down the American people... standing her ground... hoping you and I will flinch first!

Want proof?

Look no further than this recent statement on the floor of the House of Representatives by Congresswoman Maxine Waters to the President of Shell Oil:

"This liberal will be all about SOCIAL____ (abrupt pause) uhhhh... uhhh... (pause) will be about... (pause) basically taking over and the government running all your companies."

Or how about this statement by Congressman Maurice Hinchey:

"Maybe they'd be willing to have these companies owned publicly... owned by the people of the United States."

Waters and Hinchey aren't even attempting to obscure the fact that they want to nationalize our industries -- THAT'S SOCIALISM!

And what about Pelosi?

She KNOWS that if she can get away with single-handedly obstructing a vote on the one thing that can relieve the suffering of Americans without being run out of town on a rail -- namely lifting prohibitions on domestic drilling -- she can probably get away with anything!

"All That Is Necessary For Evil To Triumph Is For Good Men To Do Nothing." - Edmund Burke

Some of our elected leaders are not about to let Pelosi get away with it!

Congressman Shadegg sent an e-mail out which read in part:

"We're not giving up... Over 70% of Americans favor increased domestic drilling. Republicans believe that a viewpoint held by a majority of the public deserves, at the very least, a vote on the floor of the people's house. Congressional Democrats have repeatedly admitted, by requesting that President Bush open the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, that an increase in supply will decrease prices. Yet, over the past several months, they have barred from the floor any legislation seeking to increase domestic supply--and now, they've gone on vacation. This isn't just about gas prices; this is about our economic and national security. ..."

"My colleagues and I are committed to an energy policy that increases the domestic supply of fossil fuels to power the American economy of today, and aggressively pursues a variety of alternatives, including solar, nuclear, wind, and hydropower, to drive the American economy of tomorrow. We can, and we must, lower energy prices, create American jobs, and cease our funding of Hugo Chavez and other unfriendly governments. Speaker Pelosi may believe that Americans can wait until September for relief, but if you ask the average family of four, living paycheck to paycheck, relief can't come soon enough."

Shadegg is RIGHT!

This battle is about more than gasoline prices, and yes, even the suffering of Americans who are living paycheck to paycheck!

History may remember this fight over domestic drilling in a greater context... as a pivotal battle in our fight to maintain "our economic and national security" -- indeed our sovereignty as a nation!

And while we can applaud legislators like Shadegg and Blunt and Boehner and Pence for taking the fight to Pelosi; their actions will not make the difference!

The actions of the American people will determine the final outcome!

If good men and women do nothing, Pelosi will succeed!

Together, we must take action right here and right now!

Obama’s Views Not Consistent With Christianity, Conservative Says
Wednesday, August 06, 2008
By Allison Aldrich, Correspondent

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) (AP File Photo)Washington (CNSNews.com) - Americans should question Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) commitment to Christianity based on his “disregard” for unborn life, well-known black conservative author and activist Star Parker said.

“Based on his disregard and disrespect for human life, we should question his insistence that he’s a Christian. It is inconsistent with the biblical world view to think that not only is abortion okay, but he goes so far as to support partial-birth abortion,” Parker told CNSNews.com in an interview.

Parker, who is president of CURE, a think-tank that focuses on issues of race and poverty in America, said in addition to abortion, she is concerned about America’s dependence on welfare and the consequences that Obama’s support for such policies will have in the U.S.

“There’s a problem in this hardcore, left philosophy of Barack Obama that people keep dismissing,” said Parker. “I think [Obama’s social policies] will destroy what’s left of the black family. Socialism doesn’t work. It doesn’t work for individuals, it doesn’t work for families and it doesn’t work for our society. Our society cannot coexist with socialism.”

Parker, a one-time single mother on welfare who worked to become one of the nation’s top conservative speakers, said she hopes that the race of the expected Democratic nominee will not be a factor when other black conservatives decide who to support in the presidential election.

“I would never support someone just because of their race, and I certainly wouldn’t support a hardcore, leftwing, liberal Marxist, as Barack Obama is,” Parker said. “You cannot put the principles that we say we hold dear on the sidelines because race is now a factor.”

Parker said she believes race is one issue that should be left out of the voting booth this November.

“It’s the principles of America that have made America great, not the ethnicity of the people that develop those principles and put them into law and establish this great nation.”

Parker spoke at the Young America’s Foundation National Conservative Leadership Conference on Monday.

Go girl! Ms Parker is right on! Unfortunately, I fear Mr. Obama will win, not because he is right, but because we have so few "Star Parkers" and the few we have are being squelched by the main stream media. God bless you and your dear ones. God bless the USA.

Iran Heading Toward Nuclear 'Breakthrough'

Israel: Iran Heading Toward Nuclear 'Breakthrough'

Friday, August 1, 2008 9:25 PM

Iran is heading towards a major breakthrough in its nuclear weapons capability, Israel's deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz warned Friday.

"Iran is continuing to advance toward a military nuclear capability and is heading towards a major breakthrough," the Iranian-born Mofaz told a think tank after talks in Washington with US officials.

"For us such a situation that Iran will have a nuclear power is an existential threat and from the state of Israel point of view, it is unacceptable," Mofaz told the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

"Our estimation is that already by (2009) Iran will reach enrichment capability and as soon as 2010 will have option to reach (uranium production) at military levels," he said in broken English.

He charged that Iran was playing for time in talks aimed at halting uranium enrichment with the United States, Russia, China, France and Britain -- the permanent UN Security Council members -- and Germany, the so-called P5-plus-1.

"One thing is clear is Iranians are continuing their policy of buying time and so far they are succeeding," he said.

"We all know time is a decisive element in our ability to change the picture and remove the Iranian threat," Mofaz said.

"And the window of influence is becoming smaller and I believe about to close," he said. "It's a race against time and time is winning."

He said he favored a diplomatic solution to the showdown with Iran over its nuclear program but refused to rule out all options, including the military option, to stop Iran.

Young Obama's Red Mentor

Young Obama's Red Mentor
By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Tuesday, August 05, 2008 4:20 PM PT

Election '08: The mainstream media have finally gotten around to revealing Barack Obama's early mentor. But they've downplayed the mystery man's communist background.

As noted in the July 29 curtain-raiser to this series, the seeds of Obama's far-left ideology were planted in his formative years as a teenager growing up in Hawaii — and they were far more radical than any biography or media profile has portrayed.

Poet-journalist Davis speaks in Hawaii in this undated photo.
A careful reading of Obama's first memoir, "Dreams From My Father," reveals that his childhood mentor up to the age of 18 — a man he refers to only as "Frank" — was none other than the late communist Frank Marshall Davis, who fled Chicago after the FBI and Congress opened investigations into his "subversive," "un-American activities."

In a belated story on the relationship, the Associated Press describes Davis as "left-leaning."

In fact, Davis was a member of the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA, according to the 1953 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities of the Territory of Hawaii, which labeled him "a bitter opponent of capitalism." The report was introduced as evidence in the U.S. Senate Internal Security Subcommittee hearings probing the "Scope of Soviet Activity in the United States."

"Davis scholars dismiss the idea that he was anti-American," the AP reports. But one of them, ex-University of Hawaii professor Kathryn Takara, acknowledges in a Ph.D. paper on Davis (not quoted by AP) that he'd been fingered as "a Communist."

Davis wrote militant poems as a black writer in Chicago, including one in which he hails the Soviet revolution: "Smash on, victory-eating Red Army." He also attacked traditional Christianity, titling one inflammatory screed, "Christ is a Dixie N*****."

As Obama was preparing to head off to college, he sat at Davis' feet in his Waikiki bungalow for bitter nightly bull sessions. Davis plied his impressionable guest with liberal shots of whiskey and advice, including: Never trust the white establishment.

"They'll train you so good," he said, "you'll start believing what they tell you about equal opportunity and the American way and all that sh**."

In the eyes of white America, Davis warned Obama: "You may be a well-trained, well-paid n*****, but you're a n***** just the same." He also nurtured anti-white hatred in his young mulatto subject, telling him, "Black people have a reason to hate."

AP conveniently glossed over these quotes.

How much influence did Comrade Davis have on Obama? The Democrat White House hopeful refuses to talk about the relationship now. In the book, he only shares that he was "intrigued by old Frank, with his books and whiskey breath and the hint of hard-earned knowledge."

However, Obama followed in Davis' footsteps after college, working as a "community organizer" for the same socialist network in Chicago. He even considered a career in journalism like Davis.

Obama attended socialist conferences, and took a shine to other black Marxist revolutionists. Not long after Davis died in 1987, Obama came under the spell of another black nationalist-socialist, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who, like Davis, wore a dashiki and became a father figure.

If the relationship with Davis was as blase as the Associated Press makes it sound, why is Obama mum about it? And why did he try to hide Davis' identity in his first memoir, published in 1995?

"With the exception of my family and a handful of public figures," he wrote in the preface, "the names of most characters have been changed for the sake of privacy." But there was no need to protect Davis' privacy. He had long been dead.

More likely, the cryptic references to his communist mentor were — and still are — designed to protect Obama's background from the scrutiny it deserves.

People Vs. Pelosi

PLEASE REGISTER IN YOUR MEMORY BANK HOW MS BELOSI SIDE STEPS THE QUESTIONS ABOUT LETTING THE HOUSE VOTE ON THE DIRLLING MESURES. THIS IS ANOTHER OBSTRUCTION BY
D E M O C R A T S

People Vs. Pelosi
By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Tuesday, August 05, 2008 4:20 PM PT

Congress: In telling House Democrats it's OK to vote for drilling, Nancy Pelosi has conceded that on the biggest election issue she's out of step with the American people. Will Republicans seize this opportunity?
Washington's Politico.com reports that House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, has pounced after hearing that House Speaker Pelosi is privately giving permission to House Democrats with iffy re-election prospects to support drilling for more domestic oil and gas.

"My message to Democratic lawmakers is this: If you're really for increased American energy production, then prove it by putting it in writing," Boehner said as he called on his colleagues across the aisle to sign a discharge petition to force drilling legislation onto the floor. Democratic Reps. Jason Altmire of Pennsylvania and Don Cazayoux of Louisiana have both asked Pelosi to allow a vote.

But when George Stephanopoulos over and over again asked Pelosi on ABC News' "This Week" on Sunday why she would not allow a straight up-or-down vote, the speaker bobbed and weaved.

"But if you feel you have the better arguments, why not give a straight up-or-down vote for drilling?" the former Clinton White House operative asked.

Her answer: "Because the misrepresentation is being made that this is going to reduce the price at the pump."

What Pelosi is afraid of is that a majority of the U.S. Congress believes what most Americans know — that drilling will indeed reduce pump prices.

Stephanopoulos pointed out that when Pelosi came in as speaker, she promised in writing "a full amendment process that grants the minority the right to offer its alternatives" — which she now refuses to provide.

Reminded of this, Speaker Pelosi became flustered, making a couple of false starts with her answer before remarking: "They'll have to use their imagination as to how they can get a vote . . . ."

If Congress removed the ban on drilling offshore, gave access to the massive deposits of oil in the Alaskan Arctic and allowed the oil shale of the Western states to be tapped, the global petroleum market would immediately react positively, bringing pump prices down. Crude futures prices would plunge — as they already have over mere talk of a possible softening by Congress on drilling.

That's the last thing House Speaker Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and likely Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama want. (Obama now claims he'll "consider" drilling as part of an environmentalist package.)

More drilling and lower prices would mean that Big Oil is no longer the boogeyman, but rather the key to the solution. And it would mean that all the windmills, solar panels and geeky plug-in cars the Pelosi Democrats want to force down the throats of the American people would have to wait until they're economically viable.

That could spell disaster for Democrats in November.

House Republicans, led by Reps. Mike Pence of Indiana and Tom Price of Georgia, are continuing their historic protest on the House floor demanding a drilling vote, in spite of Congress being in its August recess. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is even set to appear Wednesday.

In an election year that was supposed to be a blowout in favor of the Democratic Party, Republicans have found a powerful populist issue that terrifies vulnerable House Democrats.

With gas consumers hurting and hostile regimes exploiting our dependence on foreign oil, John McCain and the GOP have three months to make the most of it.

GOP Calls on Dems to Return from ‘Recess’

GOP Calls on Dems to Return from ‘Recess’ for Vote on Offshore Drilling
Tuesday, August 05, 2008
By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer

Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.)Washington (CNSNews.com) - Congress recessed for the summer on Friday, but that didn’t keep Republicans from returning to the House floor on Monday to demand that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) reconvene lawmakers to pass energy legislation, including lifting the ban on offshore drilling.

“It was simply wrong for Congress to take a five-week paid vacation without ever taking a vote on giving the American people more access to American oil,” Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) said of the unprecedented gathering.

Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.)Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) called for the action on the floor, which saw representatives shouting comments from the floor because microphones had been turned off by the Democrats.

People touring the Capitol took part in the activity Monday, some sitting in seats on the House floor and cheering for speakers who denounced their Democratic counterparts for leaving the Capitol in the midst of a national energy crisis.

Lawmakers told CNSNews.com that if Pelosi does not bring Congress back for a special session, they would ask President Bush to do so.

Obama's Plans Spell Economic Doom

Obama's Plans Spell Economic Doom

Tuesday, August 5, 2008 2:42 PM

By: Dick Morris & Eileen McGann

Barack Obama had it half right when he said that the McCain campaign would focus on raising voters' fears about him.

He was wrong in saying that the chief point of attack would be that he "doesn't look like all those other presidents on dollar bills." He wishes that were it.

But McCain does need to raise fears about Obama; that is, play on voters' worries about electing a man they don't know who has only a few years of experience in federal office. (Indeed, Obama's only been in the Senate since 2005, and he spent most of 2007 and 2008 running for president, paying almost no attention to his duties in the Senate, as witness his absentee record.)

These fears will focus on two key areas: the economy and national security.

McCain needs voters to hear repeatedly, from top economists and office-holders, that Obama's tax-hike plans spell economic doom. The campaign must explain that Obama is not simply raising taxes on the rich, he's crippling their ability to generate jobs, make investments and produce wealth. (For example: "When Obama says he'll only tax the rich, he's saying he will only tax the engine room, not the rest of the ship.")

The public must learn what the impact of doubling the tax on capital gains would be — how it would drive investment out of the country and cost us one to two points a year in economic growth for the rest of the decade.

Voters must hear how Obama can't possibly finance his programs — particularly his health-insurance schemes — with the tax hikes he's advocating. They need to ponder the impact of these tax hikes on an already slowing economy, it's legitimate to fear a new depression, not just a recession.

Economics is a field voters don't know much about and, consequently, fear greatly. Obama can capitalize on the current hard times, but he can lose big time if the impact of his tax policies is explained.

On national security, events could take over and put the issue center stage. But McCain must lay the groundwork to take advantage of whatever situation develops. He needs to hammer home the accusation that Obama is "naive" and "inexperienced" — both of which are obviously true.

He should run ads mocking Obama's claim that Iran is a "tiny nation" that could pose no real threat to the United States. He needs to hit hard at Obama's plans for Iraq and Afghanistan, hammer at Obama's opposition to the surge and refusal to vote to pay for the troops.

The offshore-drilling issue helps McCain, but it doesn't conjure the kind of fear that national security and the economy do. McCain has a long task ahead of him of burying Obama's credibility on these issues, and he needs to begin right away.

For better or worse, this election is about Obama. It is a referendum on the Democratic candidate and his agenda of change. McCain is a well-known commodity: Voter opinions of him are not likely to change much in the next three months. But their view of Obama is subject to wild fluctuation.

That's why the undecided vote right now is running at twice its 2004 percentage at this time in the race. That's why older women are withholding their approval of Obama.

McCain can and must use August to tilt these doubts into negatives.

Independent Groups Hold Key to Election

DeLay: Independent Groups Hold Key to Election

Monday, August 4, 2008 10:16 AM

By: Ronald Kessler

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay says both John McCain and the Republican National Committee need to do more to encourage independent groups to help their cause.

“They need to encourage donors to coordinate their giving to the groups that are trying to make a difference, whether they be grass-roots groups or media groups or a combination of both,” DeLay says.

“They’re not doing the blocking and tackling that needs to be done through these groups — the grass-roots on-the-ground game, as well as an air game,” DeLay says. “They need to be doing voter registration, voter identification, canvassing neighborhoods, keeping possible voters energized, and turning them out through independent groups.”

DeLay knows how to win elections. He can lay out exactly how to deliver a precinct or a state to the right candidate. His attention to detail makes him a success.

Since leaving Congress in 2006, DeLay has formed First Principles, a political consulting firm, and founded the Coalition for a Conservative Majority.

“I don’t check in with McCain, so I don’t know what they’re doing, but what I see is they don’t have much of an emphasis on organization,” DeLay says. “I don’t see them getting local party organizations to raise money in order to run on-the-ground efforts for John McCain.”

In contrast, DeLay says, “The Left over the past seven or eight years has put together an incredibly impressive political coalition. That includes donor coordination, media operations, communications operations, grass-roots operations, opposition research, they’ve got it all. And they work together. The unions alone are putting $300 million in this race. They’re doing independent expenditures. The trial lawyers are doing independent expenditures.”

As founder and fundraiser for Coalition for a Conservative Majority, DeLay is helping to build an organization whose purpose is to carry out a long-term political strategy. For example, in Pittsburgh, members of the coalition, headed by former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, meet on a regular basis and work on projects.

“Their goal is to create a working relationship either for or against the elected officials in their media market,” DeLay says. “So the congressmen that represent Pittsburgh, the state reps, the state senators, even county officials, get to know them. The coalition members support those that are conservative, and they make life miserable for those that are not. We can drive policy, and that may have an impact on the campaign.”

Currently, the only other major independent GOP group running ads is Let Freedom Ring. The group produced the “Both Ways Barack” ad, which attacks Barack Obama as just not a flip-flopper but as someone who “holds two positions at the same time.”

The group has spent several hundred thousand dollars to air the ad on major broadcast and cable networks, according to Carl Hanna, president of the group.

McCain has a chance, DeLay says. “The biggest sign is how close they are right now. I just in my gut think that Obama’s hit a ceiling that I’m not sure he can get through.”

DeLay says he likes McCain’s latest approach of trying to define Obama.

“I think that’s going to help with his base,” DeLay says. “The more he goes after Obama, the more the base is going to like it.”

Yet, DeLay says, “It hasn’t sunk in yet about how radical Obama’s world view is because you can’t tie him down to a world view. And I don’t know if anybody who works for McCain understands the whole notion of world view. And that’s what they ought to be going after is his world view. Not how he feels about health care, or how he feels about energy — what is this man’s world view?”

DeLay says, “Obama is a socialist who wants a redistribution of wealth. Obama is a way-out radical, the most radical presidential nominee in the history of this country.”

In the end, he says, “I just cannot believe the American people are going to elect him.”

545 PEOPLE OR NONE OF THE ABOVE

THANKS TO TWO OF OUR READERS WE APPRECIATE THIS TYPE OF HEADS UP. AHCD/TH

545 PEOPLE
By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ.

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like 'the economy,' 'inflation,' or 'politics' that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses
provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Tyson replaces Labor Day (READ FOR EXPLANATION)

Dear Dave,

In a stunning illustration of how long-held, cherished American traditions are being eroded by efforts to accommodate the increasingly vocal demands of some Muslims, Tyson Foods has agreed to replace Labor Day as one of its paid holidays with the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr.

The details are spelled out in the WorldNetDaily story below. We encourage our members to contact Tyson Foods and express their outrage over this decision. The Tyson Foods customer service phone number is 800-643-3410.

Food workers at the Shelbyville, Tenn., plant for Tyson Foods, which boasts on its corporate website that it strives "to honor God," will have time off for Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday closing the month of Ramadan, instead of the American tradition Labor Day.

Officials with the company told WND the labor union representing the 1,200 plant workers, including about 700 immigrants from Somalia who largely are Muslim, sought the holiday change in the new five-year contract, and the company agreed.

Officials with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union issue a press statement about the new "contract [that] creates an additional paid holiday, [Eid al-Fitr,] a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end of Ramadan."

A spokeswoman at the union's office told WND no one was in the office today who could comment on the request.

To the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, Gary Mickelson, Tyson's media chief, said there is no new holiday, but at the union's request the company agreed to discontinue the Labor Day holiday and implement Eid al-Fitr.

"Union leadership did request and receive Eid al-Fitr (which is apparently spelled various ways including Id al-Fitr and Eid ul-Fitr) as a paid holiday in place of Labor Day," Mickelson told the newspaper.

"Since all Team Members will still have eight paid holidays, the change will not affect production," Mickelson said.

On the paper's forum page, readers were outraged.

"If this holiday is that important to them, make them take it off instead of Christmas Day and allow ALL workers to be off Labor Day. Most AMERICAN families have some type of function on Labor Day," wrote one anonymous participant.

"It says union leadership made this request, makes you wonder who runs the union. I guess they are already working on a plan to replace Memorial Day, that means nothing to the Muslims so why should we have the right to celebrate it. Labor Day commemorates the plight of workers and the struggle of labor unions to improve working conditions for American workers. The Muslims will not stop until all of our rights and laws are changed to accommodate their beliefs. This will be a new America but it will be their America," said another.

The union boasts on its website, "Diversity is one of the strengths of our union. … We may come from different countries and speak different languages. But what unites us is the belief that by standing together we can better advance our interests."

The holiday comes at the conclusion of the month-long Ramadan for Muslims, but it not on the same day each year. Officials with Tyson said they were working out how best to address what apparently now will be a floating holiday for the company.

Mickelson said other holidays for the company workers include birthday, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Union spokesman Randy Hadley told the newspaper, "The negotiating committee felt this was extremely crucial, since this holiday is as important to Muslims as Christmas is to Christians."

The union also reported "two prayer rooms have been created to allow Muslim workers to pray twice a day and return to work without leaving the plant."

Ironically, the company on its website also promotes a variety of traditional and customary Christian and secular blessings for food – its primary product.

"This is America, founded by the blood of our forefathers and should not be challenged by Somalians, Hispanics, or any other immigrants. If they come to America, they need to learn our language and our ways. They can practice their culture in private if they so please, but not shove it down our throats. Would they let us go there and change there country? I have banned Tyson's products from my home for years because of the illegals they were hiring. I am sorry for the producers that are supplying them, but Tyson's has once again crossed the line with the American people. Labor Day was here long before Tyson's. What holiday will be next to be taken away and replaced to accommodate an immigrant. This stinks worse than the plant," said another anonymous forum participant.

"Disgusting ... appalling ... horrifying ... there just aren't enough words to describe this situation. There will never be another Tyson product in my home EVER!! Bedford County and the rest of the nation needs to take notice. Is this what we are coming to?" said another.

A Muslim website says the holiday is a "joyous three-day celebration" that concludes Ramadan, during which Muslims fast during the day.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the national holiday dates from Sept. 5, 1882, and is "dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country."

Winning Isn't News

Iraq: What would happen if the U.S. won a war but the media didn't tell the American public? Apparently, we have to rely on a British newspaper for the news that we've defeated the last remnants of al-Qaida in Iraq.

London's Sunday Times called it "the culmination of one of the most spectacular victories of the war on terror." A terrorist force that once numbered more than 12,000, with strongholds in the west and central regions of Iraq, has over two years been reduced to a mere 1,200 fighters, backed against the wall in the northern city of Mosul.

The destruction of al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI) is one of the most unlikely and unforeseen events in the long history of American warfare. We can thank President Bush's surge strategy, in which he bucked both Republican and Democratic leaders in Washington by increasing our forces there instead of surrendering.

We can also thank the leadership of the new general he placed in charge there, David Petraeus, who may be the foremost expert in the world on counter-insurgency warfare. And we can thank those serving in our military in Iraq who engaged local Iraqi tribal leaders and convinced them America was their friend and AQI their enemy.

Al-Qaida's loss of the hearts and minds of ordinary Iraqis began in Anbar Province, which had been written off as a basket case, and spread out from there.

Now, in Operation Lion's Roar the Iraqi army and the U.S. 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment is destroying the fraction of terrorists who are left. More than 1,000 AQI operatives have already been apprehended.

Sunday Times reporter Marie Colvin, traveling with Iraqi forces in Mosul, found little AQI presence even in bullet-ridden residential areas that were once insurgency strongholds, and reported that the terrorists have lost control of its Mosul urban base, with what is left of the organization having fled south into the countryside.

Meanwhile, the State Department reports that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government has achieved "satisfactory" progress on 15 of the 18 political benchmarks - a big change for the better from a year ago.

Things are going so well that Maliki has even for the first time floated the idea of a timetable for withdrawal of American forces. He did so while visiting the United Arab Emirates, which over the weekend announced that it was forgiving almost $7 billion of debt owed by Baghdad - an impressive vote of confidence from a fellow Arab state in the future of a free Iraq.

But where are the headlines and the front-page stories about all this good news? As the Media Research Center pointed out last week, "the CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 were silent Tuesday night about the benchmarks" that signaled political progress.

The war in Iraq has been turned around 180 degrees both militarily and politically because the president stuck to his guns. Yet apart from IBD, Fox News Channel and parts of the foreign press, the media don't seem to consider this historic event a big story.

Hillary Plots, Eyes 2012 Bid

With hopes of being chosen as Barack Obama’s vice-presidential running mate dashed, Hillary Clinton has begun the process of carving out her political future.

The New York Post reports Clinton met earlier this week at a secret ladies-only dinner in Washington to discuss where she can go from here.

After learning she would address the Democratic National Convention on its second night – traditionally not the night the vice presidential nominee would speak – Clinton reportedly gathered her female posse together to discuss a possible White House run in 2012.

The get-together included some of the top women in Democratic politics, like California Sen. Dianne Feinstein; founder of Emily's List Ellen Malcolm; California Rep. and chair of the New Democrat Coalition Ellen Tauscher; and former Recording Industry Association of America CEO Hilary Rosen, who's now political director of the Huffington Post.

"You could say Hillary met with her homegirls,” one insider tells The Post. “They're all very powerful and important women. It's highly unlikely they were plotting anything around the VP spot because Hillary knows Barack Obama isn't going to pick her. They were probably planning her future."

Jay Carson, a spokesman for Clinton, did no respond to calls or e-mails from the media, however a representative for Feinstein said, "It was a personal dinner. They had a couple of glasses of California wine, but the content of the meeting is going to remain between them."

Phony 'Emergency'

Phony 'Emergency'

By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Friday, August 01, 2008 4:20 PM PT

Stimulus: Barack Obama's newly unveiled "Emergency Economic Plan" is quite a document, sounding more like the rantings of an extremist fringe candidate than a serious contender for the presidency.

The six-page package is a doozy, replete with populist ideas that will wreck the economy and leave us poorer. The only real emergency we should worry about is the debacle that would follow its passage.

It's shocking that a mainstream candidate, with so many supposedly well-regarded economists advising him, would produce such a shoddy, poorly thought-out plan.

Take his proposal to send every family a check for $1,000. Don't worry, he assures us, we won't have to pay for it. "Windfall profits from Big Oil" will pick up the tab — in this case.

Sen. Obama seems to be trying to take advantage of reports that Exxon Mobil reported record second-quarter income — indeed, the highest quarterly profit for any corporation ever.

But the reality is that as Obama and his equally unknowing friends push windfall taxes, Exxon Mobil has already given the U.S. a massive windfall. As economist Mark Perry has noted, Exxon Mobil will pay more taxes this year to the U.S. Treasury than the bottom 50% of all taxpayers — combined.

In the first half, Exxon Mobil's after-tax income rose 15% to $22.6 billion. A lot of money, to be sure, until you consider that Exxon Mobil paid $61.7 billion in taxes — also a record.

People shouldn't fall for such cheap, recycled class-warfare argument. Yet many will. Sadly, it will saddle big energy companies with higher taxes and crimp their exploration and drilling budgets. That means less oil on the market and higher prices.

We know this because it has been tried before. Jimmy Carter's windfall profits tax led to a 6% drop in domestic oil output and as much as a 15% surge in oil imports, according to the Congressional Research Service. Now, Obama wants to play it again.

The rest of Obama's plan is just as nonsensical. It would spend $50 billion on various kinds of stimulus, including $25 billion to help erase state government budget deficits. In other words, he'll reward profligate states and punish thrifty ones. This is "stimulus" only if you think stimulus is saving government jobs.

Another $25 billion would go towards "replenishing" the Highway Trust Fund to rebuild the nation's roads and bridges. The problem with this idea is that we're already paying for it, with a 18.3- cents-a-gallon tax on gasoline and even more on diesel.

Unfortunately, under the last transportation bill, Congress chose to spend more than it had coming in — the result of runaway pork-barrel politics, not need.

As the Transportation Department's inspector general wrote in a scathing 2007 report, "Many earmarked projects considered by the agencies as low priority are being funded over higher-priority, non-earmarked projects."

The real problem is not that we pay too little in taxes, or that "Big Oil" is enjoying "windfall profits." It's a big-spending, big-taxing Congress that "emergency" plans such as Obama's will only embolden. This lame plan will hurt the economy, not stimulate it.
